CHSS Student Success Newsletter May 2019

Welcome to the May issue of the REACH Student Success newsletter!

Congrats to 2018 and 2019 CHSS Grads!

This year’s commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 4 in Tingley Coliseum. Congrats to all of CHSS’s graduates!

Twelve credits a term might be full-time, but 15 credits a term or 30 per calendar year are on time for finishing your degree and moving faster toward your goals.

How will you #FillUpon15 this year? Intersession classes and summer classes are a great way to get ahead. Summer intersession runs between 4/29 and 5/19, and intersession and summer classes still have openings. Here’s a quick video on how to search for intersession classes!

Common Course Numbers: Changes Coming to Fall Term

New Mexico institutions of higher education are switching to a common course numbering system for 1000- and 2000-level classes to help make transferring between schools easier. You’ll see these updated course numbers starting in Fall 2019. Keep an eye out for updates. You can also find out more at this link.

Fall Registration

The fall schedule of classes goes live on May 1, and continuing students can start to register June 10!

Successful students REACH: they are Resilient, Empowered, Accountable, Curious and Hopeful.

Resilience: Resilient students learn and grow from obstacles. Five ways to increase your resilience according to Jessie Sholl are:

  • Boost your positivity, especially around how you see challenges
  • View challenges as learning opportunities
  • Cultivate gratitude and kindness
  • Practice self-care: get enough sleep and be sure to get outside
  • See humor as medicine: laugh often
