Welcome to the April issue of the REACH Student Success newsletter!

#15toFinish

#15toFinish

Twelve hours a semester is full-time, but 15 credits a term or 30 per calendar year is “on time” for finishing your degree and progressing toward your transfer, degree and career goals.

How will you get your #15toFinish this year: intersession, CLEP, summer classes? Use Degree Works (in the “Graduation” tab in MyCNM) and meet with your School Advisor, Erin Radcliffe, to plan your #15toFinish for this summer and fall!

Summer Course Planning Tips

Taking summer courses is a great way to get ahead on your #15toFinish. To keep moving forward toward your goal, consider:

  • Taking at least 9 credits
  • Working on general education or core requirements (look for specialized or 2000-level classes in fall or spring)
  • Taking a class you anticipate might be a challenge or that you need to repeat so that you can focus on that class
  • Looking ahead to the fall schedule to see if you need any pre-reqs that you can take over the summer

REACH Tip

Successful students REACH: they are Resilient, Empowered, Accountable, Curious and Hopeful.

Hopeful: Successful students are hopeful. According to Allie Grasgreen, hopeful students “set goals, visualize paths to achieve them and summon the motivation to start down those paths.”

Studies suggest that hopeful students graduate 16% more than their peers. How will your practice hopefulness this spring?

Resources For Students

According to NASPA, half of college students who drop out do so because of an expense less than $1,500. CNM’s Rust Opportunity Assistance Fund helps students who encounter an unexpected expense that might jeopardize their ability to finish the term.
