Better Breakfast Month

There is no better time to celebrate breakfast than during the entire month of September. It’s Better Breakfast Month! Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast has many health benefits. Eating a regular morning meal helps control weight and can guide us towards eating healthier meals regularly throughout the day.

It’s that time of year again. Kids are getting back to school, and everyone is beginning to prepare for the winter months ahead. It’s important to take stock of how to start off the day. Consuming a well-balanced breakfast in the morning gives our bodies energy to get our day started the right way. Kids who have a healthy meal before school starts consistently perform and behave better at school. Having breakfast as a family every morning to talk about daily plans and promotes healthy eating. Breakfast is essential, but don’t skip the fun of preparing breakfast with your kids!

How to Observe Better Breakfast Month

  1. Take a food nutrition course
  2. Whether you prefer online learning or attending classes in person, there's a strong chance you'll be able to find an interesting course that will teach you how to prepare healthy and delicious breakfast dishes. What a perfect way to kick off Better Breakfast Month! Our ComPsych EAP (guidanceresources.com) offers TONS of articles related to nutrition to get you back in the game. CNM offers Nutrition courses too – why not use a Tuition Waiver? You can browse classes offered via myCNM (ex. NUTR 1010 – Personal & Practical Nutrition & NUTR 2110 – Human Nutrition).

  3. Choose the healthy option when eating out
  4. Many restaurants offer light, nutritious breakfast options. So, while passing on the chocolate chip pancakes and cream cheese stuffed French toast may require a little willpower, we're confident you'll still be able to find an option that will satisfy nearly any craving — and will get your day off to a great start.

  5. Create a meal plan
  6. Eating a nutritious breakfast doesn't just happen on accident. For at least one week during Better Breakfast Month, make it a point to plan them out in advance. Knowing what nutritious foods you will be eating throughout the week will help to eliminate any secret sugar-packed breakfast splurges.

Open Enrollment is coming!

CNM Employee Benefits will be hosting Open Enrollment during the month of October. Keep an eye out for announcements in News Link, e-mails and flyers! Open enrollment is an annual opportunity for employees to make changes to their benefit elections. Specific dates are announced in late September/early October.

Benefits that allow changes:

  • Medical, dental, vision
  • Pre- and post-tax premium election
  • Voluntary life insurance - employees can request to increase or add coverage for themselves or spouses/domestic partners; All additional amounts require completion of the evidence of insurability form and coverage is subject to approval of the insurance carrier.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts

Acceptable Changes:

  • Add/Change/Cancel benefit plans
  • Add/Cancel dependent coverage
  • Change Pre or Post-tax premium election

Flu Shot Clinics

On-site flu shots are available for employees and family members, age 19 and older. Bring your Medical Plan ID Card – there’s a $0 co-pay with most insurance carriers.

Why get a Flu Shot? When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through the community. Flu shots help to keep more vulnerable populations from getting sick (such as children and aging parents).
