Does Your Degree Require Math 1410, 1415, or 1710?
If your degree requires MATH 1410, MATH 1415 or MATH 1710 and above, or if you like algebra and want to take as much as you can, you can take this courses:
MATH 1410 – Trigonometry
Course Formats: Face-to-face, Distance Learning, Intersession
MATH 1410, along with MATH 1415, prepares students for further study in the calculus classes required for physical sciences and engineering.
Some sections of this course use an online homework program. To see if an access code is required, click on “View Books” from the Schedule of Classes and check to see if “MyMathLab,” “MML,” “WebAssign”, or “WA” is listed.
MATH 1415 – Advanced Algebra
Course Formats: Face-to-face, Distance Learning
MATH 1415, along with MATH 1410, prepares you for further study in the calculus classes required for physical sciences and engineering.
Some sections of this course use an online homework program. To see if an access code is required, click on “View Books” from the Schedule of Classes and check to see if “MyMathLab,” “MML,” “WebAssign”, or “WA” is listed.
MATH 1530 – Precalculus with Trigonometry
Course Formats: Face-to-face
MATH 1530 combines the content of MATH 1410 and MATH 1415, and so can be taken in place of those two classes. It prepares you for further study in the calculus classes required for physical sciences and engineering.
Some sections of this course use an online homework program. To see if an access code is required, click on “View Books” from the Schedule of Classes and check to see if “MyMathLab,” “MML,” “WebAssign”, or “WA” is listed.
Does Your Degree Require Math 1460?
If your degree requires Math 1460 or if you like algebra and want to see what calculus is about, you can take this course:
MATH 1460 – Elements of Calculus I
Course Formats: Face-to-face
MATH 1460 is designed for students studying Business, Biology, or other fields that require a basic treatment of calculus.
Some sections of this course use an online homework program. To see if an access code is required, click on “View Books” from the Schedule of Classes and check to see if “MyMathLab” or “MML” is listed.
Does Your Degree List a General "Mathematics Requirement"?
Many AA and AS degrees simply require the "Mathematics Requirement," without specifying a particular class. If your degree has this listed, you can take any of the algebra or calculus classes listed above or, if you prefer non-algebraic math, you can choose one of the following courses:
MATH 1320 – A Survey of Mathematics
Course Formats: Face-to-face, Distance Learning
This non-algebraic class covers some mathematical topics from everyday life and some abstract mathematical ideas.
MATH 1330 – Probability and Statistics
Course Formats: Face-to-face, Distance Learning, Intersession, Lab
This class covers the statistical tools you see in the news, politics, medicine, and many areas in the social sciences.
Lab: There are a few sections of Math 1330 that include additional applications of the statistics to real data using statistical software. These classes integrate the statistical concepts from MATH 1330 with applications in a 1 credit lab, MATH 1331 (Introduction to Data Analysis Using Technology).
You can find the Lab sections of MATH 1330/1331 in the Schedule of Classes by selecting the Instructional Method "LEARNING COMMUNITY CLASS." The paired sections are also listed on the “Learning Communities” page linked to the Schedule of Classes website. You will need to register for the sections of MATH 1330 and MATH 1331 that have matching section numbers (which will always have a middle digit of “5”, such as 150, 151, 250, 350, etc.).
MATH 1340 – Geometry for Design
Course Formats: Face-to-face
This class is designed for students studying art.
Does Your Degree Require Math 1110?
If your degree requires Math 1110 or if you are interested in understanding why basic math works the way it does, consider this course:
MATH 1110 – Math for Teachers I
Course Formats: Face-to-face, Distance Learning
This class is designed for students going into Early Childhood or Elementary Education. It does not satisfy most other degrees’ math requirements.
