Information about the requirements for Human Services Field Experience.

The courses within the Human Services degree that require field experience include:

HSV 2890: Introduction to Social Work and Practicum

Field Experience Information for Human Services

  • This course requires students to complete 45 hours of field experience in social service agency through the term.
  • Students will receive an email with information on applying for a field placement shortly before the term begins. All students will be required to fill out an online placement application in order to complete field hours.
  • There are limited placement options to complete hours after 5:00pm or on weekends, so students should attempt to plan their schedule to allow for field hours to be completed sometime Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm.
  • Students taking this course may be required to take and pass a background check. Students are responsible for paying the background check fees. Background check procedures vary by agency, so students will wait until they’ve accepted a placement to complete the background check process. There are some limited opportunities for students who are concerned about their ability to pass a background check. Students concerned about passing a background check should contact their instructor to discuss options.

HSV 2210 is now the prerequisite to HSV 2890.

The placement process will only apply to students enrolled in HSV 2890.
