Phelan Gavaldon a CNM Distinguished Faculty Award Winner

Feb. 15, 2018 -- Phelan, a full-time Distinguished Faculty Award Winner for 2017-18 from the School of Applied Technologies, is focused on student success and continually strives to ensure his students are prepared for the workforce.

He has maintained a long-standing relationship with Habitat for Humanity and embeds service learning projects in his courses to provide a real-world work experience for his students. He not only leads the Skills USA program at CNM but is also a member of the Skills USA state board.

To make sure his students are educated in the latest technology, Phelan attends code analysis and code update classes regularly. Phelan concentrates on communication and strong engagement to teach his online classes. He utilizes a wide variety of videos, online resources, and discussion boards in addition to other best practices to engage students. He works on community outreach projects with students including teaming with the Albuquerque Police Department to help people in need. Phelan puts a heavy emphasis on CNM’s Vision of Changing Lives, Building Community, and his dedication serves his students well.
