Smith Brasher Renovation Begins Dec. 17 – BIT Moving

Major renovations to Smith Brasher Hall (SB) will begin on Dec. 17, which will cause the School of Business & Information Technology (BIT) and its classes to relocate until the building reopens for classes in January 2018. Students are advised to double-check their 2016 Spring Term class schedules for locations on classes that would normally be held in SB.

The BIT administrative offices will be moved to the Montoya Campus in the K Building, Room 102, for the duration of the renovation. Faculty will be relocated to various campuses.

Although faculty and staff in SB are in the process of being relocated and no classes will be held in the Spring Term, there will still be some events held in SB through Feb. 20. A construction fence around SB will be erected on March 1 and will remain up until the renovation is complete.

Because construction crews will be drilling 160 geothermal wells for the building’s heating and cooling systems, the parking lot just south of SB will be fenced off through at least the summer and possibly into the fall. When the drilling of the wells is complete, the fence will be drawn closer to the building and the parking lot will reopen as general parking.

When construction is complete in January 2018, SB will have 11 general classrooms, 10 computer lab classrooms, new faculty and staff space, and an enlarged Business Resource Center. The auditorium will also be upgraded.
