Please describe in as much detail but in 500 words or less why you have nominated this instructor for the MSE Jon Gill Bentley Faculty Excellence Award.  The awards committee will weigh in its deliberations the depth/scope/impact of demonstrated excellence in the category or categories for which a faculty member is nominated. The committee will select from one to four MSE faculty members to recognize each academic year in the Fall Term. Self-nominations are welcomed.

Both full time and part time veteran faculty are eligible for the award (that is, they are at least in their eighth semester of instruction in MSE).  Nominations for the 2016-7 year are due to the dean of MSE by Nov. 7, via email to or by hand or interoffice email to the MSE Office. Nomination forms can be obtained from Yvonne Ybarra at

The nomination essay will be the primary source for evaluating nominations, so please provide as much detail as possible in 500 words or less as to why a nominee should receive the award.  The award committee may ask for additional materials to enable selections.

Nominations will be reviewed by each member of the Awards Committee, comprised of four volunteer MSE faculty (who are exempt from nomination) and one volunteer student.

The 2016 award for each recipient includes:

  • Name listed on the MSE Jon Gill Bentley Faculty Excellence Award Plaque (to be hung in MSE office).
  • A monetary award (the total of which may vary some each year, but currently $500) split evenly among up to 4 awardees.

This award is made possible by contributions to the Jon G. Bentley Memorial Endowment of the CNM Foundation, Inc. Consider supporting it through a donation to the Foundation.
