New Standards for Recycling

Jan. 24, 2018 -- CNM’s Physical Plant Department is implementing a new standard for locations of indoor recycling bins and trash receptacles on Main Campus.

Jan 24, 2018

It will also be a case study for CNM’s participation in this year’s national Recyclemania event. Industry and college studies show that recycling increases when recycling bins and trash receptacles are placed next to each other. Please do not move recycling bins and trash receptacles from their locations – it will interfere with operations and participation in Recyclemania.

Also, please note that CNM participates in single-stream recycling, which means that all paper products (colored, glossy, white), cardboard, plastic bottles, aluminum and tin cans may be placed together in recycling bins. Glass, plastic bags, and Styrofoam are not recyclable and should be placed in a trash receptacle. Please do not dispose of bottles or other containers that contain liquids, food or grease in the recycling bins, even if they are made of recyclable materials. Plastic beverage containers must be empty and soup/food cans must be wiped clean of contaminants. For more information, please email Molly Blumhoefer, mblumhoefer@cnm.edu, in the Physical Plant Department.
