Vice President of Academic Affairs Beth Pitonzo announced in early June that Dr. Pam Etre-Pérez has accepted the dean position for the School of Adult & General Education (SAGE) and will begin her new duties on July 26.

Dr. Etre-Pérez will bring more than 25 years of experience in the field of adult and developmental education to CNM, which will be a great asset as SAGE continues its strong history of delivering nationally recognized educational services to its students.

Since 2004, Dr. Etre-Pérez has served as the director of Adult Basic Education at the New Mexico Higher Education Department.  She has also served as the special assistant to the State of New Mexico cabinet secretary.  Prior to her work at the Higher Education Department, she was a program director for the Adult Basic Education Program at the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus.  Dr. Etre-Pérez earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Georgetown University; a master's degree in teaching from the School for International Training; and a Ph.D. in language, literacy, and socio-cultural studies from the University of New Mexico.  Dr. Etre-Pérez was a National Institute for Literacy Leadership Fellow in 2000-2001 and she was honored in 1998 as Valencia County Citizen of the Year for her volunteer work in adult literacy.

In a message to faculty and Academic Affairs staff, Dr. Pitonzo thanked Dr. Jane Bradley for her willingness to serve as interim dean of SAGE for the past year and for her solid leadership during the search process.  Dr. Pitonzo thanked LouAnne Lundgren, associate dean of SAGE who was a finalist for the position, for the integrity, skill and courage she displayed during the search process.  She also thanked the search committee and everybody who participated in the process.
