Dorielle Caimi, a local artist and former student at CNM, took home a slew of awards from this year's New Mexico State Fair. Caimi's oil and canvas work competed against works from around the state at this year's fair at Expo New Mexico.

Caimi's painting "She's Looking to Lose It" was awarded Best of Show for Fine Arts.

Her painting "She got a Hold of my Lipstick" was awarded first place in the Oil Painting category and her painting "The Sorrow Bird" placed third in the Oil Painting category.

Her painting "The Desert Muse" (oil on canvas) was also on display at the fair.

After attending CNM from 2003-04, Caimi went on to complete a Bachelor's of Fine Arts at Cornish College of the Arts and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She said she continues to draw on her terrific experience at CNM as she advances in her promising art career.

"I've kept in touch with (CNM instructor) Lynn Johnson over the years because never have I had a teacher with as much knowledge and passion for art and her students as she has," said Caimi. "I felt the most support from her, and she also challenged and continues to challenge me to grow as much as I can as an artist. She will always be my favorite painting teacher."
