Once again, CNM employees put their caring ways on display through the CNM Foundation's Leading the Way charitable drive. For 2011, 578 employees will donate more than $125,000 to charitable organizations. The dollar amount surpassed the $110,000 goal and was $22,600 more than the amount raised last year.

The $125,000 amount pledged is a new record for CNM's annual Leading the Way efforts.

The campaign kicked off at the CNM Convocation in September and took donations until just before the winter break in December. Employees from many departments and campuses contributed. The Physical Plant Department had contributions from 100 percent of its employees.

Anna Sanchez, director of development and alumni affairs for the CNM Foundation, said that "Much credit's due to Luis (Campos) and Xeturah (Woodley), and of course our fabulous committee who helped spread the word about the campaign."

"The faculty, staff, administrators and community gave above and beyond what we even expected," said Woodley, who co-chaired the campaign with Campos.

"They gave from their hearts and that shows in the final numbers. We have a great group of people at CNM!"

A committee of employee volunteers from many departments joined together to aid in enrolling employees, who could donate to the charity of their choice, including the CNM Foundation. The campaign is organized through the CNM Foundation, which ensures that 100 percent of the money donated goes directly to the charity designated.

Sanchez said that the best part of the campaign is that it brings everyone together in a charitable effort. Leading the Way allows you to give money to the charity of your choice through deductions from your paycheck.

"That's the beauty of it," Sanchez said. "You can give to any charity: your church, homeless charities, and more. We're proud to be among other large employers in our community in demonstrating this type of giving."

Sanchez said that the campaign wouldn't be possible without the work of the committee and wanted to recognize that they went above and beyond their regular employee duties for the campaign.
