“The Office of the Dean of Students wanted to do something fun to celebrate summer,” said Libby Fatta, student events and program manager. “So we came up with this idea of Summer Fest that would appeal to students, faculty and staff.”

Among the highlights of the event were a battle of live bands, featuring two student bands and an employee band. Team ITS (employee band) won the battle, followed by My Chemical West (student band) and “The Geezer” (student band). Judges for the contest were Vice President of Student Services Phillip Bustos, Phil Bustos, CNM Comptroller Loretta Montoya and CNM Human Resource Consultant to the President’s Office Alma Aguilar.

The Military and Veterans Charter brought the Dunk Tank to Summer Fest,  which was a very popular attraction and fundraiser. Also, the Military and Veterans Charter  had executive members on the planning committee.

There were also a wide variety of information tables and activities, including a rock climbing wall and  obstacle course courtesy of the National Guard. Student clubs and organizations were represented, as well as various CNM programs and resources. Among CNM employee departments that was represented were STEMulus Center, Applied Technologies, Libraries, School of Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences and TRIO Student Support Services.

The Chemistry Club provided root beer floats with ice cream made using liquid nitrogen.

Fun fundraising activities for the student clubs and organizations also took place. Among the activities were a dunk tank and the sale of Dia de los Muertos artwork by the CNM Artworks Club.
