CNM Welcomes Students with Service Animals

Please be courteous and respectful of students with service animals.

Sep 19, 2018

You might see students with disabilities using service animals on CNM’s campuses. These service animals guide individuals with impaired vision, alert individuals who are hearing impaired to intruders or sounds, provide minimal protection or rescue work, pull wheelchairs, fetch dropped items, and many other tasks. To promote a safe and inclusive environment, please keep the following in mind when interacting with service animals and their partners:

  • Please do not touch, pet, or try to play with the service animal.
  • Please do not question the individual about their disability.

The State of New Mexico does not require service animals to be visually identified (i.e. wear a vest). If you have questions about service animals on campus, please contact CNM’s Disability Resource Center at 505-224-3259.
