Phone numbers at CNM that have a 224 prefix will change from four-digit to five-digit extensions for internal dialing beginning approximately July 18, which will increase CNM's capacity for phone lines. There will be no change for people contacting the college from external phones. The only difference for dialing internal numbers from a CNM phone line will be dialing "4" before the last four digits of the phone number. For example, after the changeover, if you were going to call the CNM Contact Center, which has a 224-3000 number, you would dial "4" before "3000," or in other words, the last five digits of the phone number. Currently, you only have to dial "3000" to reach the Contact Center. After the changeover, if you were going to call Academic Advisement and Career Development, which has a (505) 224-4321 number, you would dial "44321" instead of the current extension of "4321."

You will still dial "9" before dialing an outside phone number and "911" dialing will remain the same – you can just dial "911" or "9-911."

Phone lines at CNM's Small Business Development Center in the South Valley have a 248 prefix. To reach those lines from an internal CNM phone, you will need to continue dialing "9" and then the entire phone number: (505) 248-0132. Phone lines at the CNM Small Business Development Center located on Yale Blvd. have 224 prefixes and will switch over to the five-digit extensions like all other 224 prefixes.

A new faculty phone plan is under development and will be phased in at a later date.

Also, when the 5-digit plan goes into effect, some other phone functions will change. To forward calls, currently you press *2 to activate call forwarding and #2 to deactivate it. After the changeover, you will press *200 to activate call forwarding and #200 to deactivate it. To pick up on another phone line that's accessible to you, you currently press *7. After the changeover, you will need to press *700.

Until the new dial plan upgrade is complete, holds will be placed on requests for new phone lines, the moving of phone lines and other changes to CNM's phone systems. However, if your work space is being relocated because of construction renovation projects around the college, these phone requests will continue to be processed and implemented during this transition. Employees can still submit requests for other phone-related issues, but they will not be addressed until after July 18.
