Thinking Outside the Lecture: Teaching Inductive Reasoning Strategies with Student-Centered Learning

This is an active learning presentation of inductive reasoning strategies that gives developmental reading and writing students the opportunity to interact with examples to find the broader categorization, rather than having the teacher tell the students the meaning of concepts directly. This approach provides students with deeper learning and lasting knowledge through independent and collaborative investigation. Through hands-on practice, participants will learn how to teach inductive reasoning strategies across disciplines, but with a primary focus on developmental reading and writing students. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a brainstorming session to identify how inductive reasoning can be applied to their disciplines.
