Bringing Brain Research to the Classroom

Research suggests that the brain learns within certain constraints. Our teaching strategies should address these constraints explicitly and implicitly as we facilitate student learning. The presentation will include a brief review of the relevant brain research. Some examples will be presented to illustrate how I have incorporated the research results in my content organization and lecture presentations. Attendees, hopefully from diverse disciplines, will be asked to reflect on their current teaching strategies and their respective contents to determine: how brain-friendly their strategies are; how to improve the learning environment by content reorganization and/or tweaking teaching strategies; and what is the best way to communicate to students the impact of the brain research on their learning strategies.
