Using Formative Assessment to Promote Student Understanding

This session will cover the many advantages of incorporating formative assessments into any teaching method. Many teachers use formative assessments, such as clickers and think-pair-share, without having a specific learning goal in mind.  I will discuss the different goals that formative assessment can address, such as promoting metacognitive awareness, correcting misconceptions, and developing critical thinking. The goal of this session is to have attendees develop formative assessments that they can use in their classrooms.
