Session C3

7th Annual CNM Conference on Teaching and Learning

The iGen Goes to College

Dr. Drew Dooley (CHSS, CNM)

Sandia II, 2:00-3:15

Every generation has its quirks – that set of mannerisms and beliefs which sets it apart.  There are currently 6 generations in the workplace, 4 in college, and 2 distinctly unique generations changing education in the pre K-12 classrooms. This can present a challenging set of circumstances for educators and their colleagues. Respecting  and understanding how each generation thinks, reacts to, and plays with others can be difficult, confusing, and somewhat comical.  With the added challenge of constantly emerging technologies thrown into the mix, it becomes a daunting task to know how to teach and relate across a variety of generational learning styles.

This presentation will help attendees understand their own generational thinking and how it guides and effects the manner in which they teach and relate to their colleagues.  It will also look at the two generations waiting in the wings and how they will dramatically change the future of education.
