Deborah Honstad, EdD, RHIA (Health Information Technology, Health Sciences, San Juan College)

Sandia II, 12:30-1:45

This session will present an overview of research recently conducted at a community college in the southwest United States regarding cultural diversity and teaching presence in online education. This research looked at whether or not demographic factors, specifically student ethnicity, lead to differences in student perceptions of the importance of the various indicators of teaching presence in online courses. Findings from this study have implications for instructional designers and online instructors. The intended audience for this session is members of the higher education community either involved with or interested in cultural diversity and online teaching.
