Session A6

7th Annual CNM Conference on Teaching and Learning

Hispanic and Native American Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity in the Classroom

Alex Acuna (Math, MSE, CNM); Nora Mendoza (MSE, CNM)

Sierra II, 10:00-11:15

In the Southwest, our student population is rich with diversity, including the unique cultural diversity that our Hispanic and Native American students bring into our classrooms and laboratories. As educators, advisors and achievement coaches, it is important for us to understand the cultural issues that may impact the engagement of these students in the classroom and their success in courses and degree programs. The format will encompass a panel consisting of CNM Hispanic and Native American students and faculty/staff.  The CNM faculty/staff will consist of members of the CNM Hispanic Heritage Association and the CNM Native American Task Team.
