Praxis Tests

The Praxis Academic Skills for Educators (Core) Assessments and the Praxis Subject Assessment tests are now available for New Mexico's licensure and certification process.
  • Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators Assessments
These tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. They were designed to provide comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs. See Praxis Core information.

  • Praxis® Subject Assessments
These tests measure subject-specific content knowledge, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills, that you need for beginning teaching. See Praxis Subject Assessments information.

The Praxis Core Assessments are required to enter CNM's Alternative Teacher Licensure Program. They are also required for students who are transferring to a bachelor's program in education.

Testing Requirements

A valid government-issued photo ID (ID requirements) is required to take the test. Please indicate CNM as your reporting school as part of the Score Reporting Options to ensure we receive your results.

The Praxis Assessment is offered at the CNM Main Campus on Wednesdays and Fridays. When scheduling a morning exam (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.), select the STN20366A location. If you are scheduling an afternoon session (12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.), please select the STN20366B location.

    Test Retake Policy

If you feel you did not perform to your potential, you may retake a Praxis test once every 35 days, not including your initial test date. Note: If you take a test that is comprised of subtests, such as Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5001), Pennsylvania Grades 4–8 Core Assessment (5152), or Elementary Education: Content Knowledge for Teaching (7801), you cannot retake a subtest until after the 35-day period.

This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously. If you violate this restriction, the scores from your retest will be canceled by ETS and your test fees will not be refunded.
